PwC helps the Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation raise $60,000 for the Edward Gartland Youth Centre at annual ‘Surf & Turf”
Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, 13 November 2019 – Almost 130 people turned out to support the annual “Surf & Turf” horse racing fundraiser, sponsored by PwC, on 8 November. The event is organised to raise monies for the Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation (TCAAF).
Nick Haywood, Territory Leader, PwC TCI said: “The continued success of this event shows the depth of caring we have amongst our community. Their support, along with the hard work of the volunteers, resulted in $60,000 being raised for the TCAAF, to support the Edward Gartland Youth Centre. Once again, our community came together in support of those in greater need and we at PwC are delighted to have been involved. Our continued participation gives us an opportunity to live our core values, which include working together, caring, reimagining the possible, acting with integrity and making a difference.”
The event followed the successful format of previous years, with guests enjoying an excellent family-style dinner, while betting on pre-taped horse races that were announced live by Mr. Larry Collmus, voice of the Triple Crown and New York Racing Association. The evening was closed out with the running of the “Turks and Caicos Derby”, sponsored by PwC, featuring a Calcutta-style auction of horses. An exciting auction of the twelve runners resulted in a pot of $35,550, to be shared between the TCAAF and the top three placed horses. The champion’s trophy was awarded to Pierre Magnier of Carlyle Supplies and Roberto Stipa of Desarollos, with their horse, ‘Baby Melissa’, who tipped the tape ahead of “I’m in shock!” and “Eddy the Man”, owned by Graham Thompson & Co. and Tim Gartland respectively. All three winners graciously donated their winnings back to the TCAAF, significantly contributing to the final tally.
Galmo Williams, Founder of the TCAAF said: “Another wonderful event, everybody had a great time, and the donation to the TCAAF is incredible. Nick and Dax, with their team from PwC, and Tony and Abby with their team at OPUS, made sure it was a memorable evening. Thanks to everyone involved.”
The TCAAF is committed to making the Turks and Caicos Islands a place where people living with HIV/AIDS have lives free from discrimination and prejudice. They are committed to continuing their work with the National HIV Prevention Unit and empowering everyone living with HIV in the TCI, promoting awareness and maximising health and wellbeing by working to ensure the best possible HIV treatment and support services.
